FAQ

  • Choose your railway station and car park.
  • As a rail passenger holding a season ticket, you can claim a parking season ticket.
  • Do you travel by rail but you don't have a season ticket? Collect a  ticket at the entrance terminal or use a 10-Admission Card.
  • Non-rail passengers should collect a ticket at the entrance terminal and pay for it before leaving the car park at the ticket machines.
  • The Control Room is available 24/7 in case of a problem at the car park.
  • If your car is used by multiple drivers at different times, it is possible to obtain a second MoBIB Card that can be left in the car.
  • This second MoBIB Card will be linked to the initial customer, that is the first user to have purchased a parking product.
  • Upon making subsequent purchases, you will need to present the second car to change the new parking products above.
  • Some car parks can only be accessed with a car park season ticket that is currently valid. Assuming this is the case, you then need to validate your MoBIB cards at the counter or at the ticket machine beforehand to be able to be able to gain pedestrian access to the parking area.

For occasional use of a SNCB parking car park with a ticket, you can calculate the cost in advance as follows:

  • Consult the parking fees for the SNCB parking car park of your choice.

  • If you are a rail passenger and you are using the car park for a few hours:
    • After validating your parking ticket at the ticket office, the Passenger fare will be applied
    • Calculating the fare = hourly fee x the number of hours started (there is a ceiling of up to 24h)
  • If you are a rail passenger and you are using the car park for a few days:
    • After validating your parking ticket at the ticket office, the Passenger fare will be applied
    • Calculating the fare =
      • daily fee x the number of full days (1 day = 24 hours)
      • + hourly fee x the number of hours started (there is a ceiling of up to 24h)
  • If you are a non-rail passenger and you are using the car park for a few hours:
    • The Non-passenger fare will be applied
    • Calculating the fare = hourly fee x the number of hours started (there is a ceiling of up to 24h)
  • If you are a non-rail passenger and you are using the car park for a few days:
    • the Non-passenger fare will be applied
    • Calculating the fare =
      • daily fee x the number of full days (1 day = 24 hours)
      • hourly fee x the number of hours started (there is a ceiling of up to 24h)
  • You can park for several days in a SNCB parking car park and can do so even if you are not a season ticket holder.
  • The ticket collected at the entrance remains valid for a month. Upon returning to your vehicle, you must first pass by the pay stationsto pay for your ticket before being able to leave the car park.
  • If you travelled by train, you can take advantage of the preferential price. To do so, you need to validate your parking ticket at the train station ticket offices (either upon departing, or upon returning).

It is not possible to book a parking space at SNCB parking car parks.

You can, however, have a guaranteed parking space in a car park where this service is available, if you have bought a parking season ticket.

Even if the car park is displayed as being "full", with a season ticket that is properly valid, access to the car park is always guaranteed for you.

To purchase a season ticket you need to complete the following steps:

  • Buy a MoBIB Card:
    • Before being able to use your car park season ticket, you first need to have a MoBIB Card.
    • You can buy this card online or at the ticket office at a station of your choice.
    • The card preparation and printing costs are € 6.

  • Buy a validation for your season ticket for a period of time of your choosing:
    • The validation of your season ticket is linked to your season ticket card.
    • This is completed at a station ticket office or at the vending machines. For a Flex Season Ticket, this can only be done at the ticket office.

As a rail passenger, you benefit from a preferential parking rate. To benefit from this, scan your train ticket's barcode or place your Mobib card on the reader once you have inserted your parking ticket into the parking's pay machine. The due price displayed will automatically be the reduced fare for rail travellers.

If you are unable to scan your ticket (e.g. a ticket for international travel, a ticket registered on your identity card, etc.), you have two options:

  • press the assistance button on the parking's payment machine. You will then be connected to the car park Control Room, who can activate the preferential rate remotely (7/7, 24/24).
  • at stations with a ticket office (during opening hours), you can validate your parking ticket at the ticket office. Once you have inserted your validated parking ticket into the parking's payment machine, the machine will automatically display the reduced price for travellers.

If your parking season ticket is due to expire, you may find yourself in 2 situations:

  • Your car is in the car park

Upon arriving at the car park exit, the terminal screen will display a "supplement to pay" message. After leaving the exit zone, you will need to go with your season ticket card to the pay station. After inserting your season ticket card, the supplement being paid (at the preferential price) will be displayed.

This supplement corresponds to the parking period used between the end date of the season ticket and the time of paying. After completing the payment, your season ticket card is ejected and you have 15 minutes to leave the car park.

As your season ticket is not being renewed, you will no longer be able to enter the car park using it.

  • Your car is outside the car park

If your season ticket card is no longer valid, you can enter the car park by taking a ticket at the entrance.

  • My parking season ticket has expired

A few days before the expiry date of your season ticket, a warning message will appear on the screen of the entrance and exit terminal. This message points out to you when your season ticket is due to expire.

An existing season ticket cannot be cancelled, modified or renewed. You need to purchase a new validation period at a station ticket office.

If you want to purchase a new season ticket, you then need to complete an application form within the required time and hand it in to a station ticket office.

Please notethe renewal will be effective on the next working day.

If you have collected a ticket at the car park entrance and you want to purchase your new validation for your season ticket car that same day, the station ticket office will cancel your parking ticket and you will then be able to leave the car park free of charge.

  • My season ticket is inactive

If you do not use your season ticket card for 2 months and you want to continue to use your season ticket then you will need to purchase a new validation before the end of the 2nd month of inactivity.

Otherwise, your will no longer be guaranteed and you risk being put back onto the waiting list. The place, which was reserved, will then be made available to new season ticket holders.

You can purchase a validation for a maximum of 2 months prior to the start of the desired period.

For example :

Your season ticket is valid until the end of June. And you want a new validation as from October. If this is the case, you need to go to the station ticket office at the end of August.

Car parking spaces are reserved as a priority for regular rail passengers, who have a rail card. The principle is to guarantee a space for daily commuters.

For this reason, users are warned one month in advance of the implementation of a control system in a car park.

If you have lost your season ticket, the easiest thing to do is to go to the station ticket office. Here they will check your identity and we will be able to send you out a new season ticket card, which will be invoiced at €5.

The validation of your season ticket will be transferred to your new card.

The old card will be deactivated to prevent it from being used by some unknown person.

If you have forgotten your season ticket, you must take a ticket from the car park entrance terminal.

You need to present yourself to the station ticket office, which will issue you with a validation at the preferential price based on a valid transport document.

Then you can pay for the ticket at the pay station in the car park. After completing payment, you have 15 minutes to leave the car park.

After completing payment at the ticket machine, you then have 15 minutes to leave the car park with your vehicle.

If this time has elapsed, you will have to return to the ticket machine to pay the supplement. Where this is the case, a message will be shown on the screen of the exit terminal. Please be courteous and make space for other drivers to pass at the exit bay while you go to pay the supplement.

Each hour that is started is counted.

The car park is permanently connected to the Control Room. The latter is able to remotely manage the installations and communicate via the intercom system present at each entrance, exit and pay station.

To contact the Control Room, all you have to do is to push the button with a telephone symbol. This button is present on each entry and exit terminal and on each pay station. After a few seconds, you will be put in touch with the Control Room.

The parking ticket has to be paid for at the ticket machine before returning to your vehicle and leaving the car park.

You can securely pay with the following bank cards:

Bancontact, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Maestro

It is not possible to pay with coins or bank notes.

You can request a receipt after making payment by pressing the button in the middle below the screen.

After payment you have 15 minutes to leave the car park.

The 10-Admission Card is product reserved for:

  • Rail season ticket holders
  • Occasional rail passengers: Half-Time season ticket, Standard Multi, Student Multi, Youth Multi, Local Multi, 10 journey Card or Youth Holidays
These parking cards are on sale at station ticket offices and at automatic ticket machines (MoBIB). The 10-Admission Card can only be used in the car park chosen by the customer. This product is non-exchangeable and non-refundable.

Instructions for use

The 10-Admission Card allows the holder to enter and leave the car park 10 times and to do so within the constraints of available spaces. If the car park is marked as being "full", it is not possible to enter the car park using a 10-Admission Card.

To enter the car park, with a paper 10 Admissions Card, you need to insert the card into the yellow slot at the entry terminal and do likewise at the exit. Each time, the card is returned and then the barrier opens. If you have a 10 Admissions Card on MoBIB: present your MoBIB card to the card reader on the entry (or exit) terminal.

Each time it is used, the number of remaining admissions is displayed on the screen of the entry and exit terminal. When the number of admissions have all been used up, the card (papier) is automatically retained at the exit.

One admission corresponds to one entry and one exit every 24 hours. If you exceed this time limit, a supplement will have to be paid at the car park ticket machine and will be at the preferential price reserved for rail passengers.

Example :
Entry to the car park: Tuesday at 10 am - Exit from the car park: Thursday at 1 pm

= (1 car park access is deducted) + a supplement of (1 day and 3 hours) at the preferential price to be paid at the car park ticket machine.

10 Admissions Cards are valid for 1 year from the date of first use (for the paper version) and from the date of purchase for the MoBIB 10 Admissions Card.

If you have lost your parking ticket, you need to go to the pay station present in the car park.

  • You need to press the button with a telephone symbol and you will be put in contact with the Control Room.
  • The Control Room will verify your identity and will be able to create a new ticket from the pay station.
  • You will need to validate the print-out of this new ticket.
  • You will be charged a "lost ticket" fee.
  • After completing payment, the validated ticket will be dispensed from the pay station. You then have 15 minutes to leave the car park.

If you subsequently find your original ticket, you can request a refund equivalent to the difference between the amount that you would have had to pay and the amount of the lost ticket price that you did pay.

This refund can be requested at the station ticket office using the the "Comments-Suggestions" form.

A voucher for the amount being refunded will be sent to you once the form has been received and accepted.

  • Active members of the SNCB Group may have access together with their private car or with their company car to the car parks fitted with control equipment under certain conditions. These conditions are set out on the intraweb: SNCB  > Stations > SNCB parking
  • Non-active members of the SNCB Group should collect a ticket at the entrance to the car parks fitted with control equipment. To be able to take advantage of preferential pricing,  they need to present themselves to the ticket office of the station together with the ticket and a valid transport permit. The ticket can then be paid for at the pay station in the car park.

As part of its mission to be a key player in transport options throughout Belgium, SNCB/NMBS is developing stations to be like intermodal nodes and is doing so with a view to optimising the mobility of passengers. For SNCB/NMBS, access to the station is a priority in itself. Promoting travel options and the use of public transport is only realistic if passengers and commuters are able to access it easily. For this reason, SNCB/NMBS is investing in, amongst other things, the construction, extension and renovation of station car parks. Many station car parks are partly full of cars whose drivers do not pay for the parking fee and/or are using the car park without being rail passengers. The effect of this is that passengers regularly using the train, who pay for a parking season ticket, can't find a space. The introduction of a control system has thus been imposed.

SNCB/NMBS's parking strategy is based around four basic objectives:

  • guaranteeing the availability of spaces for regular rail season-ticket passengers
  • differentiated pricing depending on the types of station and user and depending on the local market
  • covering operational expenses by revenue
  • encouraging the use of public transport between home and the station

The proposed "car park" products have been defined based on priority being given to users as set out in the SNCB/NMBS parking strategy:

  • Regular passengers holding a rail season ticket can purchase a parking season ticket or collect a ticket at the car park entrance and then take advantage of the preferential price awarded to passengers
  • Occasional passengers, who do not have a rail season ticket can collect a ticket at the car park entrance and take advantage of the preferential price awarded to passengers. When and only when a Half-Time Train, Campus, Go Pass, Key Card or 10-Admission card is purchased, are occasional passengers able to purchase a 5- or 10-Admission card. If passengers have collected a ticket at the car park entrance, they can take advantage of the preferential price, which can be requested from the station ticket offices.
  • Non-rail passengers can purchase a monthly season ticket or collect a ticket from the entrance to the car park and pay the commercial rate.

The objectives of SNCB parking:

  • operating the NMBS/SNCB car parks
  • management in collaboration with internal services and with the NMBS/SNCB group
  • advice for studies
  • pricing studies and proposals for SNCB parking products
  • expansion and monitoring of the Bike Rental Centres

We aim to attain these objectives through collaborations between various services within the NMBS/SNCB group:

  • NMBS/SNCB supporting sales of parking products
  • B-Security supporting supervision and security of the car parks, as well as initial call-outs and interventions
  • the various NMBS/SNCB zones responsible for local call-outs and interventions

Why paying and supervised car parks?

  • Motor vehicle car parks
    • The policy of free parking has demonstrated its limitations. Where free parking was introduced, which was previously paying, a proportion of commuters, who travelled to the station by some means of transport other than by car (on foot, by bike, bus, ...), appears to have abandoned this means of transport and instead reverted to using their car. As a result there was a significant increase in demand for parking spaces without this resulting in any significant increase in the number of new rail passengers.
    • It was necessary to introduce a parking strategy for the largest stations, which were most frequented and which, as a result pose the most challenging saturation problems in terms of parking
    • The pricing policy takes account of the type of user and the proposed prices are still well below market value.
  • Bike parking facilities
    • The principles and objectives are the same as for car parks for cars: guaranteed and controlled access to assign guaranteed parking spaces.
    • Guaranteed parking spaces are offered to users in possession of a season ticket.
    • The paying bike parking facilities are ideally located based on easy access to the platforms, they are screened off and additional cameras ensure an even tighter level of security. In addition, the bike parking facilities with access control are carefully controlled by the Bike Rental Centres in the stations where Bike Rental Centres operate.
  • Significant investment has been made in relation to the introduction of parking controls, as follows:
    • The car parks are fenced off and fitted with access control and a management system in which priority can be given to regular rail passengers.
    • Security is being improved through the installation of cameras with which the security department is able to carry out "virtual security sweeps" of the car parks.
    • The car parks are connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with the operational Control Room, which is able to remotely manage equipment or respond to users' calls.
